IA Information Architecture Challenge:
Map a central starting place for information about projects, tools and other available online resource to a navigational model for Sun writers and Human Computer Interaction professionals.

IA Solution:
A great deal of original inforation existed on the server and many web tools were already available here and there. We used these to develop a navigation map, separating the information and functionality into functional sections. This taxonomy readied us for designing the user experience.

User Experience Challenge:
Design the user experience of a central starting place for information about projects, tools and other available online resource for Sun Information Products and Human Computer Interaction professionals.

Solution:
Using the navigational model, we determined the application required a navigation metaphor and consistency of visual elements since it needs:
  • a consistent visual design
  • visual clues to the location
  • consistent queues to common elements such as links to major sections
  • An visual architecture allowing for rapid global updating
Visual Design Challenge:
Design the look and feel for a of a web front end of an illustration archive for the Sun documentation community.

Solution:
We designed header and footer graphics to visually define the site. Created a website orgainized into sections. Designed an visual architecture allowing for rapid global updating by using global elements in header and footers of each page of the site. Updating a handful of graphics made the entire site look entirely new.

Created HTML template files for content providers to use and keep the established look and feel of the site. Organized the existing content into readily expandable sections.
